As an emergency physician, I prescribe narcotic drugs for pain every day. I began to wonder how complicit doctors are in furthering this epidemic of prescription drug abuse.

What this doesn't take into account is in most other Countries pain relief is available over the counter. In third world Countries many forms of strong pain relief are used holistically as they don't have Drs. per-say.
From Tramadol to codeine other Countries allow these over the Counter. Most of my friends who live globally are pretty shocked by how little is available in American pharmacies and how extremely regulated most medication is here.
